Workshops & Classes

Join artist Donna Jorna at her studio in Wynyard, North West Tasmania.
Donna offers creative workshops and classes where you can explore printmaking with recycled materials, eco-printing, using nature, to create beautiful effects on paper and more!
For groups of 2 to 6 people.

Eco-Printing on paper

Eco-printing is a technique that uses the natural pigments and textures of plants to create unique prints.  Eco- printing on paper can produce some beautiful results, similar to botanical water colour painting.

This workshop is suitable anyone looking for an introduction to eco-printing, all ages over 16.

We offer small group workshops for 2-6 people. In this 4 hour workshop you will learn how to harness the natural dyes in Eucalyptus leaves and flowers and take home beautiful prints without any prior artistic experience.

We will eco-print on to paper only, exploring different paper types, preparation and cooking options and the presentation of the finished work.

We will take a hands-on approach, exploring:

  • Plant selection and preparation
  • Preparation of paper and Mordants
  • How to bundle your papers for eco dyeing.
  • Cooking methods
  • Presentation of your eco-prints
  • How to continue eco-printing on your own from home. (What you learn in this workshop can also be applied to eco-printing on textiles).

Printmaking with Tetra pak.

Explore the medium of drypoint intaglio printmaking using printing plates made from recycled packaging, otherwise known as Tetra Pak.

We offer small group workshops for 2-6 people. This workshop is suitable for ages 16 and over. No experience needed, can't draw? no worries, you can trace your image onto the plate!

You will use repurposed recycled packages to create a small edition of prints to take home.

This method can provide similar results to traditional drypoint prints that use metal plates, but with the benefit of repurposing a waste material, and with little cost. The structure of the Tetra Pak packaging allows for more experimental approaches including creating dark tones by stripping away the top layers of the material to expose the card underneath. The creases of the packaging can also be a feature of your design.

  • This is a hands -on approach, exploring:How to use the Tetra Pak packaging in interesting ways to create drypoint plates
  • How to ink up the Tetra Pak plates
  • How to continue making and printing at home using kitchen equipment such as pasta makers and using other recycled materials.
